A little bit too late for this challenge. It was a theme for last week.
It’s been a busy week for me. I managed to take some photos along my comuting route.
These days, bikes are pushed out to car lanes. It is partly because some accidents happened between human and bikes and unfortunately some lost their lives in those accidents. Bicycles are very popular vehicles in Japan. However, bikes are no safe to ride in some part of this coutry. The elder citizens who give up their driver’s license ride bikes, which is not safe for their age.
I took some photos during my walk in a park.
Looking at the photos, I noticed that I like the geometric patterns like lines, circles and squares. The woods in the photos are fences in the park. There are too many fences in the park. Fences are at first built to protect visitors from some kind of risks. However, fences are never removed even if there is fewer risks than before. It resembles our society rarely update rules and laws.
I am participating in a ‘Which way’ series of Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge.
Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Bridges
At the beginning of May, there is a four national holidays in Japan. When I went to a bridge over Tomei highway, a long traffic moves slowly to their desitnaions.
As many houses are built along the highway, there are many bridges over highways for the people to go to the other side of the highway.
Another bridge I took photos of is a bridge over a railway. It is for people who cross the railway on foot.
I am participating in Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge.
This week, the Cee’s Fun Foto theme is about walks indoors or outdoors. I will focus on indoors walk.
These photos are taken around a shopping mall in my neighborhood.
Weekly Photo Challenge: Culture
From the end of the April to the beginning of May some families with boys display carp streamers (鯉のぼり) in Japan. This Japanese tradition is said to have its origin back to ancient age. May 5th is a national holiday ,Children’s day(こどもの日), and also a traditional day to wish healthy life for boys.
I displayed the small carp streamer for my kid when he was a little child. It was with a wish that he spend everyday healthy and sound. My carps were very small. The size and numbers of carps may vary.
Where I am living now, the area was almost farms and forests many decades ago. Though when I moved to this area, two decades ago, there was no farms, some families whose ancestors were farmers with large farms still owned, and they still owns, large houses with agriculture barns and large gardens. Many of them are now landlords or wealthy families, they follow their tradition of their ancestors. They display big carp streamers in their gardens.
Many houses display smaller ones.
Others living in apartment building manage to display much smaller ones. My carp streamer was about 50 or 60cm long.
Those who wish every child a good luck sometimes use public space for a large carp display. I took this picture in a park near Motegi, Tochigi pref., Japan.
Whether they are big or small, every parents express their love for their children.
From the end of April in Japanese calendar there are three national holidays, it is convenient for young parents with little boys to visits grandparents with grandchildren. The grand parents take care of the grand children and young parent are able to take some rests.
At the end of last March, I visited Twinring Motegi, a circuit in Tochigi pref. Japan. In the coming April, FIM TRIAL WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP start its season from Motegi.
A few trial riders were doing demonstration to promote the event. It was rainy day and the rock was very slippery, but the riders were jumping up and down on the rocks.
This week, Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge theme is the next one of the ‘Which Ways’ series.
Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Which Ways – Featuring Steps or Stairs
The word ‘stairs’ connects with moving upwards. Looking my photos this week, most of the photos are stairs that go upwards. It is interesting. After I go up a stair everyday, I go down. I do as much ‘going down’ as ‘going up’. But somehow in my mind, a stair is something to ‘go up’ or ‘climb’ rather than ‘go down’.
There are advertisement on some stairs in railway stations. Those ads are visible only when people goes upwards. Those ads are very popular in Osaka when I was young These days same kind of ads have spread into other cities. I wonder whether it is cost-effective.
Other photos are taken in Tsukuba circuit (筑波サーキット), Ibaraki Japan. Motor sport circuits have many stairs.
